What happens when you visit?

The public guides do not require an account. The hosting provider processes technical request data such as IP addresses, timestamps and browser information to deliver and protect the site. We rely on our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site for this processing. The language choice is stored in your browser’s local storage; a temporary copy of the launch feed is stored in session storage. We do not use these for advertising profiles.

Some images are loaded from NASA, ESA, Wikimedia Commons and destination websites. Live launch information is fetched from The Space Devs by our server and shared with the website and app through a cache; your browser does not send these feed requests directly to The Space Devs. These providers can receive your IP address and normal browser request information. Videos from YouTube are loaded only after you press play. The destination map loads OpenStreetMap tiles when you open its route tab.

Anonymous website counts

We count views of our homepage and destination guides to understand which information is used. The database stores only totals per page and day, using Europe/Amsterdam time. The counter uses no cookies, browser storage, visitor identifiers, IP addresses, referrers or advertising profiles. Reloading a page counts again, so the totals are not unique people. Known bots are filtered; Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals are respected. These anonymous aggregates may be retained for long-term comparison. Technical request processing by the hosting provider remains as described above.

Membership and email

If you buy Explorer Plus, Gumroad handles checkout and payment. We receive the email address and subscription status needed to give access and send the member briefing. Brevo handles confirmation, delivery and unsubscribing. We do not receive or store your card number. If you use the optional ChatGPT sign-in features, the site receives an account identifier, email address and possibly a name to recognise your membership.

Membership administration is needed to perform the subscription agreement. The optional newsletter is based on your request and confirmation where applicable; you can unsubscribe using the link in every email. We keep a minimal suppression record so an old purchase notification cannot sign you up again after an opt-out. We retain records only for as long as needed for the subscription, security, legal obligations or handling requests. Ask us for the applicable retention period for your record.

Routes, links and external services

When you choose “Route from my location” and grant browser permission, your coordinates are sent to this site and to the public OSRM routing service to calculate a route. We do not store the coordinates in our database. You can instead enter a starting point and open Google Maps; your entered location then goes to Google. Affiliate booking links are marked and may allow the booking provider to attribute a referral. The provider’s privacy terms apply after you follow an external link.

Your choices and rights

You can change your language, refuse location permission, avoid loading video or map tiles, and unsubscribe from mail. You can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to processing where the GDPR provides these rights. Send a request to support@spaceporteurope.com. You may also complain to the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Our processors and external providers may process data outside the EEA under their applicable arrangements. We review our agreements and provider settings separately from this notice; contact us for details about a specific service.
